After 2-year break because of Covid, the Sudbury Community Garden Network is holding its sixth Annual Sunflower Competition on September 17, 2022! Enter to win a $50 gift certificate from Food Basics!
Who can enter?
The competition is open to all residents of Greater Sudbury.
What are the prize categories?
Tallest Sunflower Plant
The tallest plant is measured from the base of the stem (not including the roots) to the top of the head. The head will be extended to measure the full height of the plant. Please cut off the roots to make it easier to measure the stem, and remove the leaves from the stalk (stem) because only the stalk and seed head will be measured.
Biggest Sunflower Head
The biggest head will be measured as the diameter of the seed head. The flower petals will not be measured or required. Heads should be cut from the stalk (unless also entering the same plant in the tallest sunflower category).
Most Unique
Our judges will agree on a most unique sunflower.
Sunflower Photo
If you can't come to the South End Library on September 17, send a photo of you with your sunflower to [email protected] and you'll be entered into a random draw for a prize.
When will the prizes be awarded?
Judging and prizes will be awarded on Saturday September 17, 2022, at the South End Library. Bring your sunflower(s) between 10 am and 1:30 pm. Judging starts at 1:30 pm.
What are the prizes?
Four $50 gift certificates from Food Basics will be awarded - one for each of the four categories.
What are the rules?
- Limit is one sunflower entry per category (the same sunflower can be entered into multiple categories).
- Open to Greater Sudbury residents.
- Contest ends Saturday September 17, 2022.
- You must preregister to enter, or register at the library on the day of the event.
